FRANKTON VILLAGE FOOTWEAR LIMITED trading as Shoes Unlimited began in Alexandra, New Zealand in 1949 as R E Bell Limited. Initially Robert Bell was a shoe repairer but soon expanded with the help of his wife Marjorie.
The store expanded several times and business thrived in this growing Central Otago community.
In 1976, Murray, the middle son returned from his overseas travels and agreed to help his father out in the store. The years have sped by…Murray owns the store, sadly Marj and Bob both passed away but in 1993 his sister Jenny joined him in business in a new store in Frankton, Queenstown. The Wanaka store was opened in 2002 and Cromwell in 2011.
The recipe for the success of these stores has been to stock renown New Zealand and International brands that not only have great styling and cater for all foot shapes but most importantly that the shoes are comfortable. Sizes US6 to 10 (36 to 42) for women are in store and other sizes can be obtained. Mens 8 to 12UK (42-47) are in stock with other sizes also available. Extra wide fittings are also instore.
Murray and Jenny do their buying together and keep their customers’ lifestyles in mind. They want them to have shoes that are versatile and get them happily through a long day on their feet. Fitting shoes is so important and the staff will go the extra mile to find the best shoes for their clients needs.
All their staff are trained and will extend a warm welcome to all visitors to the four stores.
Ziera, Rieker, Hushpuppies, Ecco, Josef Seibel, Merrel, Skechers, McKinlays, Julius Marlow, Minx, Eject, Teva, Keen, Timberland and Mi Woollies are some of the huge variety of brands in store.
All of the shops have a good range of Handbags and Luggage is available in all stores except Queenstown. A wide selection of quality polishes, laces and dyes, come with good advice on shoe care. Warm merino socks, sheepskin and possum insoles will keep your feet warm during the colder winter days.
Shoes Unlimited has a wide clientele with the locals often bringing in their visiting friends and family as a ‘must do’ while on holiday in the region.
